First Lady Melania Trump announced that the 148th White House Easter Egg Roll will take place on April 6, with a special patriotic theme honoring America’s 250th birthday.

The event marks the return of a cherished White House tradition dating back to 1878, offering families the opportunity to celebrate Easter on the South Lawn with the President and First Lady.

According to the announcement, families with children 13 and younger can enter a free online lottery for tickets. The lottery opens on February 26 at noon (12 pm ET) and closes at noon (12 pm ET) on March 4. Winners will be notified by email no later than March 10.

The White House emphasized that tickets are not for sale or resale.

The tradition began during President Rutherford B. Hayes’s administration and has continued with few interruptions. This year’s celebration will incorporate patriotic elements throughout the festivities.

Volunteer applications are being accepted through February 27.

The White House will also offer commemorative eggs to the general public, with details forthcoming.

The announcement noted that President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump “look forward to continuing this entertaining tradition and making it a truly memorable experience for all.”

The South Lawn event typically features egg-rolling races, appearances by the Easter Bunny, and children’s activities. White House staff and their families traditionally participate alongside the First Family.
